Hotel Canal

Location, location, location....is the only recommendable feature of this rather weary and unappealing establishment, which faces the Grand Canal and is very close to bus and train connections, but lacks any warmth and doesn't really reflect its star rating.
Only the lobby area has any character, the rest of the interior being rather limited and plain. It does have the benefit of a shaded rear garden, but this, too, is sadly uninviting. A major disappointment for such a prime position.
Exterior
An extremely shabby-looking and faded red 2-storey, 17th century building with a central 3-storey section and tatty green shutters; the ground-floor is partly taken up by shops.
Property type: Hotel
Storeys: 2-3
Built Year: 1600s
Interior
Inside is fortunately more presentable and has some character, at least in the narrow dark lobby that has a low beamed ceiling, period furniture and a pair of wooden model boats. However the bar is quite tiny and rather plain, while the breakfast room is very bland.
Rooms: 17
Grounds
A small and rather unkempt paved garden at the rear has some seating under canopy, and is well shaded with many trees.
Location
Area Type: Directly opposite the railway station beside the Grand Canal, on a street of many tourist shops and restaurants; railway station and vaporetto 300 yds, Piazzale Roma bus terminal 200 yds.
