Locanda Del Ghetto

3 Star

This simple but welcoming B&B lies at the heart of the original Jewish ghetto, an area that is still strong in Jewish flavour. Facilities are understandably limited, but it offers a very personal welcome and the opportunity of a slightly different experience in a quiet characteristic district slightly off the main tourist trail, while a vaporetto stop is fairly close by for access to other parts of the city. Two rooms have terraces overlooking the square.

Exterior

A shabby-looking pale-coloured 3-storey townhouse with green shutters and tall arched windows on the upper-floor.

Originally dating from the 15th century, it was converted into a synagogue in the 16th, and the hotel, which occupies the first two floors, opened in 2001. The top floor is still used as a synagogue.

Property type: Hotel

Storeys: 3

Built Year: 1400s

Refurbished Year: 2001

Interior

The diminutive reception doubles as, and resembles, a hotel office, with a small reception desk and a handful of chairs. Behind this, the only other public area in the property is a small plainly furnished breakfast room whose small windows overlook a canal at the rear.

Rooms: 9

Grounds

There are no grounds.

Location

Area Type: On an attractive paved square in a residential area in the heart of the old Jewish quarter of the city, after which all other ghettoes are named. The area still has a strong Jewish flavour with several Jewish bookshops and synagogues around, plus a kosher restaurant next door and the Jewish Museum 50m away. Ponte delle Guglie vaporetto 250m.
