Locanda Vivaldi Hotel
While enjoying views over the lagoon at least equal to its grander neighbours, this welcoming and tastefully-furnished property has a more personal and intimate boutique-style feel.
Front rooms have exceptional views across St Mark's Basin to San Giorgio Island and its famous church, as does the top-floor terrace, which also hosts a bar and restaurant in summer.
St. Mark's Square and other major sights are very close at hand. The building was the home of the composer Vivaldi for around 20 years, and concerts of his music are often held in the church next door.
A well-kept if plain 16th-century beige 4-storey corner property, with a similar building immediately to the rear across a narrow courtyard. A few rooms have balconies and 3 suites have a terrace.
Property type: Hotel
Built Year: 1500s
The 17th-century styled interior has a classy feel, with polished patterned marble floors, rugs and antique furnishings throughout. The delightful lounge is comfortably furnished in red and green and has an antique desk serving as a reception.
The breakfast room, separated into two areas, is pleasantly decorated in peach and cream but quite dark, and an inviting wood-beamed bar can be found across a courtyard in the second building.
A narrow, leafy, paved courtyard separates the 2 buildings and has flowerbeds, pot plants and a private landing stage. The small 3rd-floor roof terrace has stunning views across the lagoon, and in summer serves as a bar and dinner restaurant.
Area Type: Looking across the lagoon on the bustling waterfront promenade beside a canal and bridge, next door to the Pieta church; water taxi stops opposite, San Zaccaria vaporetto stop 50m, St. Mark's Square 350m.
